Plastic Surgery Notes, News & Reviews On International Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery

Plastic Surgery Notes will be providing information and news, and reviews about plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery clinics from around the world.

Plastic surgery is a general term for operative manual and instrumental treatment which is performed for functional or aesthetic reasons, (commonly referred to as "cosmetic plastic surgery"). The word "plastic" derives from the Greek plastikos meaning to mould or to shape; its use here is not connected with modern plastics.

If you are considering a surgical or non-surgical procedure it is also mportant that you consider your reasons for wanting the procedure, your expectations of the results the plastic surgery, or (cosmetic plastic surgery), procedure may bring, as well as making sure that you have all the information you need to make a properly informed decision about whether to go ahead with the plastic surgery procedure.

Remember as well to consider the cost of plastic surgery. Elective plastic surgery - procedures which you chose to have done yourself, which may not be for strickly medical reasons - can also be expensive. Some medical insurance schemes cover some reconstructive surgeries, but cosmetic plastic surgery operations you usually end up paying for yourself.

Please don't think that Plastic Surgery Notes is catering purely for women. In this "modern age" men are also turning to cosmetic surgery to improve their looks, enhance their lifestyles etc etc. This website will be providing information, news and reviews about plastic surgery and cosmetic plastic surgery from around the world - for both sexes.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, (ASAPS), the Top Five male cosmetic surgeries in 2004 were:
1. Nose reshaping
2. Hair transplantation
3. Eyelid surgery
4. Liposuction
5. Breast reduction

And the ASAPS indicates that the Top Five Female cosmetic surgeries of 2004 were:
1. Nose reshaping
2. Eyelid surgery
3. Liposuction
4. Breast augmentation
5. Facelifts

Minimally invasive procedures like Botox injections, chemical peels, collagen injections and microdermabrasion, were also quite popular for both men and women.

In 2004, for example, almost 12 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States, up 44 per cent from 8.3 million in 2003 and 465 per cent from 2.1 million in 1997.

In total Americans spent just under $12.5 billion US on cosmetic procedures in 2004.

Costs for cosmetic surgery run about $2,000 to $2,500 an hour, Kester said. Liposuction can take one-and-a-half hours for love handles, or three hours if thigh reduction is also sought, for a cost anywhere from $3,000 to $7,500.

Breast augmentation generally costs between $5,700 to $8,500, including the implants.

Hair transplants can cost between $5,000 and $20,000, depending on how bald the person is and how much work needs to be done.

In general - plastic and cosmetic surgery is becoming more popular, and excessible, to more and more people across the world. As the cost of plastic surgery comes down, many more people are able to get their Botox injections, "nose jobs", brow lifts, breasts enhanced, thighs reduced, tummy's tucked - more than ever before.
